چکیده

Identifying correct stocking densities is an important concern for shrimp farming especially when intensification of production growing in order to meet increasing demand. Increased generate greater competition among individuals, reduced feeding efficiencies and increased water degradation. Little known, however, about the effects density on behaviour conspecific interactions commercial species. Therefore, aim present study was investigate dominance hierarchies Pacific white (Litopenaeus vannamei). Juvenile (7.91 ± 1.81 g, n = 56) were divided into three treatments (low: 6.2 shrimp/m2, medium: 12.4 shrimp/m2 high: 24.8 shrimp/m2) with four groups at each density. Groups placed feed test arenas recorded 20 min, group eight times consecutive days. Video analysis conducted via automated observation using EthoVision tracking software. Dominance observed within found remain stable across observations. Therefore effect investigated comparisons most dominant subordinate group. Results showed a clear both L. vannamei feeding. A relative consumption high density, even though less time spent area due space limitations tray. Lowest levels activity low-density treatments, coupled higher exploratory (i.e. moving, distance velocity) indicative motivation. Smaller distances extended contact between individuals influenced behaviour; subordinates longer whereas dominants explored arena more, these differences minimised Findings from this therefore revealed how (24.8 maximized behaviours while minimising inefficiencies interactions. The also showcased automatically level.

Microbiota from Litopenaeus vannamei: digestive tract microbial community of Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei)

Bacteria capable of producing different extracellular enzymes of potential relevance in digestive processes were isolated from the stomach, hepatopancreas and intestine of Pacific white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei. A total of 64 strains with proteolytic activity were isolated and grouped into 16 clusters based on morphological characteristics: 4 groups were isolated from the intestine; 5 from t...

Effects of methamidophos on acetylcholinesterase activity, behavior, and feeding rate of the white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei).

The toxicity of methamidophos on the shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei was evaluated using acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity, behavior, and feeding rate as effect criteria. The biochemical characterization of the soluble cholunesterase (ChE) present in both muscle and eye tissues of L. vannamei was performed in a first phase of the study. In both tissues, almost full inhibition of enzyme activity ...

Short communication. SNP analyses of the 5HT1R and STAT genes in Pacific white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei

Shrimp aquaculture is one of the growing animal industries. Breeding stocks with high disease-resistance and growth rate are of particular interest to shrimp breeders. Association studies are useful to find genetic markers for marker assisted selection of animals. Using six Litopenaeus vannamei individuals from a sample population, four single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were found in the 5...

Localization and bacteriostasis of Vibrio introduced into the Pacific white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei.

Although numerous mechanisms of immune defense have been described in crustaceans, the tissue distribution and fate of live bacteria introduced into the host remain unclear. In the present study, Litopenaeus vannamei were injected with a sub-lethal dose of kanamycin-resistant Vibrio campbellii expressing green fluorescent protein. Accumulation of intact bacteria was quantified by real-time PCR,...

Noradrenaline modulates the immunity of white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei.

The total haemocyte count (THC), phenoloxidase activity, respiratory burst, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, phagocytic activity and clearance efficiency in response to pathogen Vibrio alginolyticus were measured when the white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei (18.4 +/- 1.2 g) were injected individually with noradrenaline at 10(-8), 10(-7) and 10(-6) mol shrimp(-1). For the shrimp that received ...
